St Julien Wedding Venue Guide | Boulder, Colorado

St Julien Hotel & Spa is one of the most refined luxury wedding venues in Boulder, Colorado — a Forbes Four-Star and AAA Four-Diamond hotel that pairs world-class hospitality with iconic Flatiron mountain views. Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement or a multi-day wedding weekend, this guide walks through everything couples want to know before booking a wedding at St Julien.

About the Venue

Located at 900 Walnut Street in the heart of downtown Boulder, St Julien Hotel & Spa is a locally owned luxury property just 35 minutes from Denver. The hotel features 201 guest rooms, an award winning 10,000 square foot spa, Jill’s Restaurant, the T-Zero Hotel Bar, and over 16,500 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor event space.

For weddings, St Julien offers a rare combination — luxury hotel hospitality, downtown walkability, and unobstructed views of Boulder’s iconic Flatiron Mountains. Importantly, St Julien hosts only one wedding at a time and contracts all banquet spaces to a single couple, ensuring complete privacy on your
wedding day.

Key event spaces include:

· The Xanadu Ballroom — Over 4,000 square feet with 14-foot ceilings, accommodating up to 230 guests. Can also be divided into smaller sections for more intimate celebrations
· The Redgarden Lawn — An outdoor ceremony space with uninterrupted Flatiron views, perfect for memorable outdoor vows
· The Redgarden Court — A private, enclosed outdoor space framed by the hotel’s stone walls
· The Redgarden Upper and Lower Terraces — Outdoor terraces ideal for cocktail hours and alfresco dining
· The Gazebo — A picture-perfect outdoor ceremony spot framed by mountain views
· Hospitality suites — Provided as bridal getting-ready spaces

Why Couples Love St Julien Hotel & Spa

St Julien consistently ranks among the most sought after Boulder wedding venues, and it’s recommended by 97% of couples who have celebrated there.

A few reasons it earns those numbers:

First, the location is unbeatable. St Julien sits steps from Boulder’s famous Pearl Street Mall, with more than 200 shops and 80 restaurants within walking distance. For destination weddings,
this means out-of-town guests can enjoy Boulder fully without needing transportation.

Second, the privacy. Unlike many luxury hotel venues, St Julien hosts one wedding at a time. The entire event footprint becomes yours for the day, a true rarity at this caliber of property.

Third, the views. The Redgarden Lawn faces directly toward Boulder’s iconic Flatirons, offering one of the most stunning ceremony backdrops in Colorado. Few hotel ballrooms can compete with what St Julien delivers outdoors.

Finally, the service. With Forbes Four Star and AAA Four Diamond recognition, St Julien provides the kind of attentive hospitality that turns a wedding day into an experience guests remember for years.

What Makes St Julien Hotel & Spa Unique?

Boulder has no shortage of beautiful wedding venues, but St Julien holds a few details that make it stand apart. The biggest one — they only host one wedding at a time. That sounds like a small thing until you’ve actually been at a hotel where two weddings overlap. At St Julien, the entire property is yours for the day. No shared elevators, no overlapping cocktail hours, no wondering whose flowers are in the lobby. Just your celebration, fully held. Then there are the Flatirons. Boulder’s mountains feel like a character in every wedding here, and St Julien gives them center stage.

What I Love About St Julien as a Photographer

After photographing weddings at St Julien, I’ve come to think of it as the textbook example of a classic luxury hotel wedding — timeless, elegant, and quietly cinematic.

A few things I love most:

The classic hotel feel. The brick, the architecture, the warm tones — everything photographs with a timeless quality that won’t feel dated years from now. Couple portraits on the ceremony lawn or against the brick walls have a quietly editorial look I keep coming back to.

The front of the hotel. Honestly, one of my favorite spots at St Julien. The classic exterior makes for striking portraits that feel like they belong in a magazine.

The spa entrance. Another underrated gem — the spa entrance photographs beautifully, with warm lighting and refined details that add depth to a wedding gallery.

The Chautauqua opportunity. Just a ten-minute drive away, Chautauqua Park gives couples sweeping Flatiron portraits inaddition to their hotel images. It’s the best of both worlds.

Every season offers something different — blooming spring gardens, golden summer Flatiron sunsets, warm fall light, and intimate snow dusted winter scenes.

Planning Your Wedding at St Julien Hotel & Spa

If you’re considering St Julien for your Boulder wedding, here are a few things I’ve learned from photographing weddings here that I wish more couples knew going in.

Hire a Boulder-based wedding planner. This one matters more than couples realize. St Julien requires a planner, but who you choose makes an enormous difference. A Boulder-based planner already knows the venue’s rhythm, has built relationships with the staff, and understands the small details that turn a beautiful day into a truly seamless one. Some of my favorite Boulder planners include Calico Weddings (Ashley Sirjord), Ivory Events (Honey Ahijevych), and Antler & Orchid Events.
Each brings something a little different, but all of them deeply understand what makes a Boulder wedding feel right.

Build pre-wedding spa time into your timeline. The St Julien spa is genuinely one of the most beautiful onsite spas in Colorado, and it’s right there. A morning massage with your mom or sister, or a couple of hours with your bridal party before getting ready, has a way of slowing the day down in the best way. Wedding mornings can blur — the spa is a small gift to yourself.

Don’t skip a Chautauqua portrait moment. Even though St Julien photographs beautifully on its own, a quick ten-minute drive to Chautauqua Park gives you those iconic Flatiron portraits that feel quintessentially Boulder. Most couples I work with at St Julien want at least a few frames there, and it’s absolutely worth the drive.

Book early — but really, especially for fall. St Julien is one of Boulder’s most popular luxury wedding venues, and fall dates (September and October) book first. If you’re imagining a fall wedding here, 12 to 18 months in advance is realistic. Spring and winter dates have slightly more flexibility.

Let yourself be present. This is the advice I find myself giving every bride, and it matters most at a venue like St Julien. So much of what makes a wedding here special is the atmosphere — the views, the warmth, the sense of being held by a place that’s been thoughtfully curated for celebrations like yours. You don’t need to manage every moment. The team at St Julien, your planner, and your vendors will hold the details. Your job is to actually be at your wedding — to look at your person, hug your people, taste the food, feel the music. The photographs that move me most every time aren’t the ones where brides are checking their watches. They’re the ones where someone is fully, joyfully present.

Boulder is a special place to get married. St Julien is a beautiful way to celebrate here. The rest is just trusting your team and letting yourself enjoy it!
